How to Give CBD to Pets
CBD can be extremely beneficial to animals, just as it can be to humans! It can help pets with issues like pain/inflammation, anxiety, nausea, and seizures. CBD can help everyone from the overactive, hyper kitten or puppy to the old, arthritic cat or dog.
Just like Alive Market’s CBD for humans, their CBD oil tincture for animals is fullspectrum and made from hemp grown with living soil in Colorado, USA. It is a natural way to support the endocannabinoid system, which all mammals have! Therefore, CBD can benefit dogs, cats, and horses.
Administration of CBD to Pets
Like humans, CBD can be administered to pets either orally or topically. If your pet is calm and takes medication well, CBD can be administered straight into your pet’s mouth. It can also be rubbed directly onto an area of pain or inflammation. However, for more skittish or uncooperative pets, CBD oil can be added into their food! If you know your pet does not always eat all of their food, give them a smaller amount, that you know they will eat, with the CBD first, to ensure they get the full dosage.
You can also add CBD to homemade pet treats! Here are a couple of recipes:
CBD Dog Treats
• 2 cups flour
• 1 cup rolled oats
• 1 cup chicken, beef, or vegetable broth
• 1/2 cup peanut butter
• 1/4 cup honey
• 2/3 tablespoon coconut oil
• 1 teaspoon CBD oil
Combine ingredients in a bowl. Roll out dough and cut out treats. Place on parchment paper on a baking sheet. Bake 12-16 minutes at 350 degrees.
CBD Cat Treats
• 2 sweet potatoes, cooked & mashed
• 1/2 cup flour
• 1/2 cup coconut oil
• 1/4 cup gelatin powder
• 1 egg
• 1 can tuna, drained
• 1 teaspoon CBD oil
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and mash with fork. Make small balls with dough and use a fork to press them down, like you would when making peanut butter cookies.
Bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
Dosing of CBD for Pets
Most veterinarians recommend administering .25mg of CBD oil per pound of the pet’s weight. For reference, 1 dropper full of CBD oil is equal to 25 mg, so a larger animal may receive 1+ full droppers, while a small animal would receive only a couple of drops.
